A 105-foot-tall meteorological tower was installed in the Pu‘u Makaala Natural Area Reserve as part of efforts to track impacts from climate change.
It’s part of the National Ecological Observatory Network, which consists of 81 field sites throughout the United States.
Each site collects standardized data from automated sensors, airborne remote sensing surveys and on-the-ground observational sampling by field scientists.
The site in the natural area reserve is the only one in Hawaii.
