2 BIIF softball players invited to MLB camp

Kamehameha sophomore shortstop Kawehi Ili and Konawaena sophomore catcher Jayla Medeiros have been selected as two of the 60 players from across the nation and Canada to participate in the MLB/USA Softball Breakthrough Series.

According to a news release from MLB.com, the event is a special amateur development camp designed for high school softball players and will be held during Memorial Day weekend in Kansas City, Mo.

Ili and Medeiros will receive:

• Instruction from former Team USA stars, including Jennie Finch and Natasha Watley

• A visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

• A career chat at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals

• A ticket to a Royals vs. New York Yankees game

Kohala football golf fundraiser

The second annual Kohala Cowboy Football Golf Tournament will be held July 20 at Makani Golf Club, with a 7 a.m. registration and 8 a.m. shotgun start.

This is a two-man scramble with a fee of $125 a player (make checks payable to Kohala High School).

There will be a closest-to-the-pin jackpot after the round, with lunch, a silent auction and awards to follow.
