LIHUE, Kauai — The mother of a Kauai woman charged with heroin possession was expected to take the stand as the first witness against her daughter.
Julia Scriven, 31, was charged with felony promotion of a dangerous drug in April 2018.
The trial began Monday with opening statements and was scheduled to continue Tuesday, with Laurie Scriven taking the stand. Authorities say Laurie Scriven and her sister visited her daughter on Kauai and later found Julia Scriven in a motel room unconscious near a bag containing heroin and used needles before calling police.
Julia Scriven’s defense attorney says Scriven was the victim of a plot in which her mother planted the substance in the room after her daughter fell asleep.
