Wailoa Center in collaboration with the Hawaii Island Art Alliance is proud to host the MidSummer Art Celebration 2019 — 3rd Annual All Media Juried Exhibit, which will take place June 7-26 in Wailoa’s Main Gallery.

Artists throughout the state are eligible and encouraged to participate, submitting up to five entries in all media. Entries must be submitted online using the CaFÉ website, callforentry.org. There is a $15 per entry fee that goes toward the production of the exhibit and awards.

If you are planning to enter and need help with the online entry process, call 933-0416 to make an appointment. The entry deadline for the online submission is Friday, May 17.

Artist will be notified Monday, May 20. Drop off of accepted artwork at Wailoa Center will be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

Off-island work must be received by Friday May 31, and must include a prepaid return label. Accepted off-island art should be addressed to: Wailoa Center, 200 Piopio St., Hilo, HI 96720.

An opening reception for the exhibit is slated for 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 7. Monetary prizes will be awarded.

This year’s juror is Emily Catey Weiss, who has years of experience coordinating public art programs and exhibits. She currently manages the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Her philosophy is grounded in the belief that cultivating, sustaining and celebrating the arts is essential to a vibrant community. Weiss appreciates expert craftsmanship and fine details in art. She also enjoys creative techniques and unusual materials presented in refreshing ways.
