Police say a 2-year-old girl was taken to a Honolulu hospital in critical condition Sunday after being left unattended in a vehicle for almost two hours in Kona.

When officers arrived on scene, the girl had already been taken by ambulance to Kona Community Hospital. She was later flown to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu.

According to the father, the family had been shopping, and after he dropped them off at home, he drove to work, not realizing the toddler was in the car.

When the family realized the girl wasn’t home, the child’s aunt drove to the father’s place of employment and found the baby in the car.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone who may have information is asked to call Sgt. David Araki at 326-4646 ext. 296.
