Dylan Spain fired a three-hitter to lift UHH to a 1-0 victory over Point Loma on Friday in San Diego, ensuring the Vulcans’ first winning season in 27 years.

UHH went 20-16 in 1992 for its last winning season. The 26-year losing streak was a collegiate baseball record.

Spain’s complete-game victory also extended UHH’s winning streak to 13 straight games. He walked one and struck out one for his fourth consecutive win. He’s now 5-1 with a 2.63 ERA.

The Lions, the No. 2 team in the West region, won the second game of a doubleheader 7-3 to snap UHH’s winning streak.

In the fifth, Casey Yamauchi had an RBI single to score Rustin Ho for the go-ahead run. Yamauchi batted 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Zack Noll went five innings and gave up a run in the loss.

In the second game, Point Loma scored five runs of the normally reliable Brandyn Lee-Lehano, who gave up a two-run homer in relief of Kyle Alcorn, who pitched six scoreless innings.

Lee-Lehano went one inning in his first loss, and the Lions scored two runs off closer John Kea, who also pitched one inning.

Nathan Garkow pitched seven innings of one-run ball for the win. The Vulcans were held to five hits.

Justin Lederwood batted 1 for 4 with two RBIs, including a two-run homer in the fifth.

UHH (23-16, 19-11 PacWest) and Point Loma (28-15, 16-9) are in a virtual tie for second place in the standings and play another doubleheader on Saturday.

The Vulcans weren’t ranked in the latest West region poll.

But if they can earn another doubleheader split, there’s a chance they could crack the top six, which comes with a regional berth.
