Resurfacing work will begin next week on Hualalai Street.

The project will be done by the county Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division in two phases: from Kapiolani Street to Kinoole Street April 15-16, and from Kinoole Street and Kilauea Avenue April 17-18.

Work is scheduled from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.

Public Works spokeswoman Denise Laitinen said the resurfacing will cost $300,000.

There will be no parking along the roadway during the work period.

Motorists should drive with caution because heavy vehicles will be in the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the scheduled work times.

Traffic control personnel will be posted in the area to help facilitate traffic flow.

Contact the Highway Maintenance Division at 961-8349 with questions.

Meanwhile, a traffic signal at the intersection of Hualalai and Kinoole streets will be repaired Sunday.

The work will occur from 8 a.m. to as late as 6:30 p.m. Left turn lanes will be closed, but motorists can turn left at the stop bar.

The intersection will be treated as a four-way stop.
