A special presentation about the internationally popular black hole’s first image is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikolani College of Hawaiian Language.

Admission is free.

The public is invited to join in the talk story about the recent groundbreaking results from Event Horizon Telescope (an international collaboration) and the pioneering role Hawaii telescopes (James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and the Submillimeter Array) played in this nearly-impossible experiment of capturing the first image of a black hole. The presentation also will explore the way in which Hawaiian language and culture are gifting astronomy with a bridge to a new understanding of the cosmos.

Moderated by Sherry Bracken, the panel of presenters will include Jessica Dempsey, Larry Kimura, Geoffrey Bower and Doug Simons. This special presentation is sponsored by ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH-Hilo, JCMT, SMA and Event Horizon Telescope.
