BIIF: Kamehameha softball clips Kohala 9-3 to remain undefeated

Brooke Baptiste pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in Kapaau and Leiloa Bustamante collected three hits as Kamehameha beat Kohala 9-3, moving one win from an unbeaten BIIF softball regular season.

The Cowgirls (9-4) fell into a second place tie with Honokaa in Division II, and the Dragons can lock up home field advantage in their semifinal series with Kohala with a win Tuesday at Keaau.

The Warriors (13-0) cruise into Saturday’s cross-divisional showdown against Waiakea.

Kawai Kauahi-Raquel was 2 for 4, including a two-run double and three RBIs, and Kuulei Ili had two hits and two runs.

Baptiste allowed only a two-run single to Kayla Joy Kealoha and worked around six walks. Two of the three runs she allowed were unearned.

Mikayla Kekoa went the distance for Kohala, striking out five. The senior didn’t walk a batter but hit four, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs.

Baseball

Waiakea 12, Hawaii Prep 2: Kalai Rosario ripped a two-run home run and Devin Midel hit a two-run single as the Warriors scored five times in the first en route to remaining undefeated in a five-inning TKO.

Khaden Victorino pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit with three walks and two strikeouts, and William Crawford worked three innings, allowing Nate Heymann’s run scoring double in the fourth.

Skyler Roque-Sunahara started for HPA (7-5) and retired the first two batters, but the next six hitters reached, including hits by Safea Mauai, Cody Min and Devon Hirata. Ka Makani’s five pitchers walked 11 batters. In an inning, Roque-Sunahara struck out two but walked two.

The Warriors stole 10 bases.

Roque-Sunahara had two hits, including a double.

Crawford recorded three strikeouts, allowing four hits and two runs.

Kamehameha 12, Keaau 1: Ayson Mar batted 2 for 4 with four RBIs in a five-inning TKO at the Cougars’ field.

Ridge Ishii and Breadan Coloma each added two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors, who pounded out 10 hits.

Hanalei Warren pitched three innings of one-run ball for the win. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two. Brock Malani finished with two innings of scoreless relief.

Edward Oguma went 1 1/3 innings in the loss. Ricky Rapoza pitched 3 1/3 innings, and Bronson Respicio-Mercado recorded an out.

Dante Medeiros batted 2 for 2 for the Cougars, who were held to three hits.
