Police say a 67-year-old Waikoloa woman died Sunday after the car she was a passenger in ran off the roadway in Waimea, about a half-mile west of the 45-mile marker of Old Saddle Road.
She’s has been identified as Elisa Eubank.
Officers responding to an 11:18 a.m. call determined that the driver of a westbound white 2002 Ford Thunderbird convertible lost control and crashed into the grassy embankment, causing the vehicle to roll and overturn onto its roof.
The driver was transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision.
Eubank, who was the front-seat passenger was unresponsive at the scene. She was pronounced dead at North Hawaii Community Hospital at 12:06 p.m.
Police believe inattention and speed were factors in this crash, but it is not immediately known if alcohol and drugs were factors.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Eubank’s death is the fourth official traffic fatality this year compared to seven at this time last year.
