Police charged a 43-year-old Pahoa man with theft and firearm offenses after the crime allegedly was captured on video surveillance.
Detectives from the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section charged Captain Max Starbuck Blackwell with first-degree burglary, third-degree theft, auto theft, illegally carrying a firearm, and possessing an unregistered firearm.
Blackwell’s charges stem from a March 20 incident when Blackwell allegedly entered a Malama Street property in Leilani Estates and removed surveillance cameras from the residence. While conducting checks, officers were able to locate the property seen in surveillance footage before the system was disabled.
In addition to recovering a stolen motorcycle, police also recovered the stolen surveillance cameras and a firearm.
Blackwell made his initial court appearance Monday.
Hilo District Judge Harry Freitas maintained Blackwell’s bail at $13,000 and ordered him to return for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
