Hawaii’s baseball team put three days of frustration behind it in a blowout win at Ohio State.
Logan Pouelsen pitched seven strong innings Sunday, and the Rainbow Warriors broke out with their bats for a 15-3 victory to salvage the finale of a four-game series.
UH (10-14) put up 15 runs for the first time since a 15-8 victory over Pepperdine on Feb. 26, 2015, and the ‘Bows’ 19 hits were there most since amassing 20 at Wong Stadium in 2016 in a two-game split against the UH-Hilo.
All nine players in UH’s lineup recorded at least one hit: Kamehameha-Hawaii graduate DallasJ Duarte was 2 for 5 with an RBI double and two runs scored, and fellow Warrior alum Daylen Calicdan went 2 for 6 with a run-scoring single. Alex Baeza, Maaki Yamazaki and Tyler Best collected three hits apiece, and Ethan Lopez hit a three-run home run.
Entering the game, UH’s season high for runs was nine and hits was 15. Hawaii lost the first three games against the Buckeyes (13-11) by a combined four runs.
In his second start of the season, Pouelsen (1-0) allowed just one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts. Cade Smith worked the final two innings, striking out three and allowing one run on three hits.
