Takeshi “Kawa” Kawamoto, 86, of Papaikou died March 17 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired diesel mechanic for the former Yamada Transfer, member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, UsTOO East Hawaii, International Longshore and Warehouse Union Hilo Pension Club, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home Adult Daycare, and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Monday (March 25) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Graveside urn committal services 9 a.m. Wednesday (March 27) at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Shigeno “Shirley” Oba Kawamoto of Papaikou; sons, Floyd (Lauren Oie) Kawamoto of Hilo and Earl Kawamoto of Papaikou; daughter, Lois (George Makua) Giraud of Hilo; brothers, Tsutomu Kawamoto and Raymond (Diane) Kawamoto of Hilo; sisters, Mitsuko Tomono of Volcano and Masako Shimasaki of Hilo; a granddaughter, a grandson and a great-grandson; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mitsuo Tanaka, 93, of Wailea died March 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ninole, he was retired from the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and a member of Honomu Hongwanji Mission Kyodan and Koyukai and Wailea Kumiai. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Curtis (Lori) Tanaka of El Paso, Texas, and Dennis (Michele) Tanaka of Waimea; brothers, Hiromi (Jo-Anne) Tanaka of Makawao, Maui, and Isao (Hisako) Tanaka of Hilo; sisters, Shizue Ichinotsubo of Honomu, Kikuko Kuwahara of Hilo and Loretta (Hiroshi) Hayashida of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Faith Tanaka of Torrance, Calif., and Michiko Yamamoto of San Francisco; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Tatsuo Yoshida, 102, of Laupahoehoe died Feb. 24 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was a carpenter and plumber for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission. Visitation 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 6, at Ballard Family Mortuary. Funeral service at noon. No flowers. Survived by wife, Wakako Yoshida; sons, Gary Yoshida and Jerry Yoshida of Honolulu, Glenn (Joanne) Yoshida and Lloyd (Mary) Yoshida of California; daughters, Arlene Kawabata of Waimea, Lei (Anthony) Lum of Kailua, Oahu; sister, Yaeko Yoshimura of Honolulu; sister-in-law Doris Yoshida of Honolulu; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
