Police have charged a 35-year-old Puna man for a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning in Fern Acres subdivision.

According to Capt. Greg Esteban of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Division, at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, detectives charged Ryan Frederick Davis with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Davis is accused of shooting 38-year-old Joshua John Santos early Monday morning. Santos’ lifeless body was found lying on the driveway of a Plumeria Street residence.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots at the home and told police that the shooter fled on foot.

The medical examiner determined Santos died from gunshot wounds to the chest.

Davis’ bail has been set at $310,000 and his initial court appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.
