Edgar Barclay • baseball

As an alum of St. Joseph, which doesn’t have a baseball team, the junior left-hander flew under the radar a bit – until Sunday.

Barclay baffled Hawaii in delivering a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as Cal State Bakersfield beat UH 2-0.

The first 17 ‘Bows batters went down and Barclay (3-1) – who made previous stops at Central Arizona College and GateWay Community College – took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, lowering his ERA to 1.78.

Barclay, one of the mainstays on a Hilo PONY team that reached the 14U World Series in 2013, was named the WAC’s pitcher of the week Monday.
