Hawaiian Airlines to add daily flight to San Francisco

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaiian Airlines plans to add an additional daily flight to San Francisco in the fall.

The airline will add a third daily service between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and San Francisco International Airport beginning Oct. 16.

The airline says the new service will add to its existing daily flights between San Francisco and both Honolulu and Maui’s Kahului Airport.

The carrier says it currently flies nearly 500,000 passengers annually to Hawaii from the Bay Area.

Oahu closes sections of state park due to high surf

HONOLULU (AP) — Officials have closed two sections of a state park due to a high-surf warning.

The Keawaula and Mokuleia sections of Kaena Point State Park on Oahu were closed to the public Sunday.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources says the closure is a result of a large surf swell expected to cause flooding along the state’s northern and western shores.

Surf is expected to reach up to 35 to 50 feet along parts of the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, and Oahu.

Officials say the high-surf warning will remain in effect statewide until 6 p.m. today.

City repaints crosswalk near fatal crash

HONOLULU (AP) — City workers have repainted a Honolulu crosswalk that was accidentally erased on the same stretch of road where a fatal pedestrian accident occurred earlier this year.

Crews repainted the Hawaii Kai Drive crosswalk Friday. The city accidentally removed the crosswalk in May. For months, residents asked the city to re-paint it, but the city didn’t say when it would.

In January, 86-year-old Maqbul Ur Rahman died while trying to cross the road about 50 yards from where the crosswalk used to be.

Police say Rahman wasn’t in a marked crosswalk. He was in a poorly lit area at 6:45 p.m. when he was hit by a black Jaguar driven by a 24-year-old man.
