The Volcano Art Center is pleased to announce two special book signing events with author David Kawika Eyre at the VAC gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Eyre will sign copies of his book “Kamehameha – The Rise of a King,” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today and again at the same time on March 16.

These special book signing events are held in conjunction with the current exhibition at the VAC gallery titled “NIUHI- SHARK: Honoring Kamehameha the Great in Paint and Prose.” The exhibit, open through March 24, consists of original art by Carl F.K. Pao that is paired with selections from this award-winning book written by Eyre, and is in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of King Kamehameha’s death.

Eyre has taught Hawaiian language at Kamehameha Schools for 23 years. His book “Kamehameha — The Rise of a King,” won a Palapala Po‘okela Award for excellence in Hawaiian culture, a Nene Book Award, a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award and a Read Aloud America selection award. He is the author of seven books, the most recent being a collection of haiku poems, “not a one,” published by Red Moon Press in 2018.

The Volcano Art Center invites you to meet Eyre and learn more about Hawaii’s Great King through paintings and written word by visiting this very special exhibition.
