State basketball: Hawaii Prep falls to Farrington in D-II semis

Hawaii Preparatory Academy couldn’t get its inside game going and fell to Farrington in the semifinals of the HHSAA Division II 58-44 on Friday night at Kalani High on Oahu.

Ka Makani guards KJ Walker scored 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting while Javan Perez added 11 points on 4 o 12 shooting. HPA bigs Matija Vitorovic, Michael Hughes, and Valentinas Ulinas combined for 13 points on 5 of 20 shooting.

HPA shot just 33 percent from the field, including 3 of 20 from beyond the arc.

Raefe McEnroe, a 6-foot-4 senior, scored 17 points on 8 of 16 shooting for the Governors (12-3), who shot 51 percent and outrebounded HPA, 37-29.

Farrington led 27-21 at halftime but used a 20-11 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Kurt Castro added 10 points off the bench for the Govs, who made just 4 of 14 from 3-point range.

Walker had a solid game with five assists, three turnovers and three steals.

McEnroe had 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Kasier 75, Kohala 57

Mario Drummer scored 18 points on 5 of 9 shooting to lead the Cougars (9-7), who shot 53 percent from the field and relied on their size to outrebound Kohala, 42-28.

O’Shen Cazimero scored a game-high 25 points on 7 of 16 shooting while Dawstin Hoopai and Jeffrey Francisco added seven points each for the Cowboys(11-5), who were held to 33 percent shooting.

Kaiser led 30-22 at halftime and outscored Kohala 45-35 in the second half.

The Cowboys hit 6 of 25 from beyond the arc. Cazimero sank 3 of 8 from long range and made 8 of 13 free throws.

Francisco was a defensive presence with five steals, Cazimero had three steals, and freshman Koby Agbayani, who had six points, finished with two steals.

Division I

Kapolei 62, Waiakea 37

The Warriors struggled with their shooting, hitting just 28 percent from the field, including just 2 of 19 from long range.

Peter Suiaunoa led the way with 16 points, and Kiai Apele had eight points for Waiakea (13-3), which was outrebounded 51-28.

JaShon Carter scored 20 points and Kevin Burkel added 10 points for the Hurricanes (14-2), who shot 38 percent and made 15 of 31 from the free throw line.

Waiakea trailed 21-15 at halftime but Kapolei found another gear and outscored the BIIF champion 41-22 in the second half.

Suiaunoa had nine rebounds for Waiakea. Apele had five assists and three turnovers.
