Something about Biola brings out the best in the UH-Hilo women’s basketball team’s 3-point shooters.

The Vulcans got nine 3s from five different players Tuesday in a 56-48 victory in La Mirada, Calif, to earn their first season sweep.

Allie Navarette chipped in two 3-pointers, one to key a second-quarter surge, en route to her 24th double-double of the season (16 points, 10 rebounds) and sixth in a row.

UHH’s final tally from 3-point range (9 of 28) and 32.8 percent shooting overall might not look that hot, but consider the Eagles (9-15, 7-11 Pacific West Conference), who shot only 26 percent.

The Vuls (8-15, 5-14) got 3-pointers from Maddie Beck, Mandi Kawaha, Navarette and Sara Shimizu in the second quarter to take a 28-13 lead, and they led by 14 at halftime.

Kawaha and Shimizu, who was 3 of 6 on 3-pointers, each scored 11 points, and Amber Vaugn added six points and six rebounds.

Jazz Benn led Biola with 17 points.

On Feb. 4 in Hilo, the Vulcans hit their first six 3-pointers to rush out to an 18-0 lead.

Golf: Waiakea alum Andi Igawa followed up her first-round 74 with an 87 on Tuesday as the UHH women finished last of 14 teams at the St. Edwards Invitational in Austin, Texas.

Igawa still set the pace for the Vuls at 21-over. Carli Shimokihara carded an 84 on Tuesday, finishing 34-over, and former Warriors golfers Kaelyn Uchida and Kimberly Katayama were at 44-over and 52-over, respectively.

UH-Manoa: Tied for second place in the Big West with five games remaining before the tournament, the Rainbow Wahine basketball team received some bad news Tuesday.

Leading scorer and rebounder Makenna Woodfolk is leaving the team because she is pregnant.

“Unfortunately, I have decided to stop playing basketball and focus on my academic progress and taking care of myself physically and mentally during this pregnancy,” Woodfolk, a junior, said in a school release. ”
