Kiai Apele • basketball

The Waiakea junior was a hero two years ago in the BIIF boys Division I basketball championship game with a late steal and go-ahead layup , but he outdid himself last week.

In the first Hilo-Waiakea final since 2010, Apele’s production would make his favorite player proud.

Apele’s triple-double (21 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) carried the Warriors to their third crown in four years.
