Police arrest 25 for DUI

During the week of Feb. 4-10, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona and Puna, seven each; South Hilo, six; and South Kohala, five.

So far this year, there have been 119 DUI arrests compared to 120 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.83 percent.

There have been 99 major accidents so far this year compared to 117 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.4 percent.

To date, there have been two official traffic fatalities, the same as at this time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
