It hasn’t translated much to the win column yet, but Kamehameha alum DallasJ Duarte is off to a fine start to his college baseball career.

Duarte doubled Sunday in Hawaii’s 4-0 loss to Portland in Honolulu, giving the true freshman catcher six hits in his first 13 at-bats of the season.

On Saturday, Duarte punctuated a seven-run eighth inning with a two-run single as Hawaii beat Portland 9-5 for its first win of the season and a split of a doubleheader.

Duarte finished 3 for 4 at second base and catcher. Earlier in the eighth, Duarte singled and scored on Alex Baeza’s three-run home run to tie the game.

Duarte’s former Warriors teammate Daylen Calicdan was 2 for 3 in right field in the second game Saturday and was 0 for 2 on Sunday at second base as the Rainbow Warriors lost three of four games in the series.

Portland (3-1) starter Chris Clements struck out eight in six shutout innings.

Kash Koltermann pitching four innings in a losing effort, allowing four runs on six hits.
