Kona student named to Berea College dean’s list

BEREA, Ky. — Brianna Halliwell of Kailua-Kona was named to the fall 2018 dean’s list at Berea College. A student is named to the dean’s list by achieving a GPA of 3.4 or greater while passing at least four total credits, a course load equivalent to 16 semester hours.

Hilo student receives degree from Georgia Tech

ATLANTA — Bryan Gorges of Hilo earned a master of science degree in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Gorges was among about 3,600 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech’s 256th commencement exercises on Dec. 14-15.

Big Isle students honored for academic excellence

MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Tufts University recently announced the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester. Among students earning dean’s list honors were Anna Morita of Kailua-Kona and Maia Tarnas of Waimea. Dean’s list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Isle students make honor roll

SAN DIEGO — The following University of San Diego students earned second honors in the fall semester of 2018. Second honors students have a grade point average between 3.4 and 3.64: Taylor Doherty of Waikoloa and Kauanoe Petrill-Abrojina of Ocean View.

Kapaau student earns first honors

SAN DIEGO — University of San Diego student Gabrielle Bartolome of Kapaau earned first honors in the 2018 fall semester. First honors students have a grade point average of 3.65 or greater.

Volcano student awarded degree from Miami University

OXFORD, Ohio — Treasa Cole of Volcano was among more than 1,000 students from Miami University who received degrees during fall commencement exercises Dec. 14. Cole graduated with a master of arts degree, majoring in biology.

Hilo student named to dean’s list at Ithaca College

ITHACA, N.Y. — Jordyn Lyn Hayashi of Hilo, majoring in applied psychology at Ithaca College, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester.

Several Hilo students named to Pacific University dean’s list

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The following students were named to the dean’s list at Pacific University for the 2018 fall semester. To qualify, a student must achieve a term grade-point average 3.70 and complete 12 or more graded hours: Jingting Gan, Alexia Iwamoto, Cecily Poai, Tia Uehara and Bryce Yamashita.

Hilo student picks up dean’s list honors at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford named 366 students to its fall 2018 dean’s list. Among them was Dakotah Graham, a senior business management student from Hilo. Dean’s list status is awarded to students who earned a grade point average of 3.5 or greater.

Keaau student named to dean’s list at Simpson College

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Genevieve Block of Keaau, the daughter of John and Jenny Block, was named to the 2018 fall semester dean’s list at Simpson College. Students named to the dean’s list earned a 3.70-3.99 GPA.

Waimea student gets Scranton dean’s list accolades

SCRANTON, Pa. — Cannon D. Greco Hiranaka of Waimea was among nearly 1,600 students named to the University of Scranton’s dean’s list for the 2018 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or greater, with a minimum number of credit hours during the semester, to be named to the dean’s list. Greco Hiranaka is a senior exercise science major in the university’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.
