The Pahoa Community Aquatic Center will reopen at 9 a.m. Feb. 6, following a blessing ceremony, according to a statement from the county. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

The pool had been closed since last May due to damage from the Kilauea eruption.

The repairs cost $146,000, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to cover most of the expense since it’s related to the eruption.

“The pool will open with an adjusted schedule until we fill two vacant full-time Pahoa lifeguard positions,” said Roxcie Waltjen, director of Parks and Recreation.

Interviews for the positions are expected be completed by Feb. 5.

The pool’s adjusted schedule is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
