The Hawaii Photography Show kicked off the 2019 schedule for Wailoa Center on Jan. 4 with the announcement of the winners of the juried competition. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 24.
The photography winners in the junior section were “Morning Drive” by Lehua Luis, first place; “Juxtaposed” by Carrie Johnson, best black and white photo; and “Maku‘u Sunrise” by Cody Yamaguchi, best nature photo.
The adult division awards of merit were given to “Race You Across the Bridge,” “Pahoa” and “Sundown on Mauna Kea” all by Jay Takaaze; “Onward” by Steven Clark; “Raw” by Jill Briggs; “Entryway,” “Pathway into the Light” and “Tiki, the place of Refuge” all by Kathleen Carr; “End of the Day” by Carrie Johnson; and “Iguana Repast” by Lee Schechtman.
The three top awards in the adult division were given to 3rd place, “Maku‘u Cliffs” by Yamaguchi, third place; “Hilo Mystique” by Takaaze, second place; and “Lava Wonderland” by Yamaguchi, first place.
Congratulations to this year’s group of talented photographers. The public is encouraged to visit the exhibit before it closes later this month and vote for their favorite photograph, which will be awarded at the end of the exhibit.
The exhibit also is showcasing the art of invited artists Gregory Paul and John Strohbehn, who have 12 sculptures on display.
