Izaiah Pilanca-Emmsley’s athletic gifts aren’t just relegated to Ka’u’s eight-man championship football team.
The super sophomore scored 31 points Friday night in Pahala, and the Trojans ambushed Konawaena early and held on to surprise the Wildcats 63-60 in BIIF boys basketball.
Shesley Martinez added 16 points for Ka’u (3-5), which jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter but saw that lead trimmed to five points entering the fourth quarter.
Ethan Neru scored 27 points for Konawaena (4-2), which has lost two of three, including a defeat at the hands of Parker last week.
Waiakea 66, Kealakehe 22: Keegan Scanlan made seven 3-pointers and scored 27 points, and the Warriors used a first-half onslaught to coast at home.
Will Soares added 13 points and Rekky Prudencio had 12 for Waiakea (5-0), which led 51-16 at halftime.
Howard Robert led the Waveriders (2-5) with 16 points.
Hilo 55, Parker 34: Hilo made sure it wouldn’t be an upset victim against Parker, which beat Konawaena 55-47 in overtime last week.
In that game, Conner Brown scored 33 points, going 10 of 10 on free throws in OT.
The Vikings had enough scoring balance and held Brown to 10 points for the Bulls (1-3).
Mason Galima scored 17 points, and Rayson Padilla added 10 points for the Vikings (4-1).
Kohala 82, Keaau 62: The Cowboys (4-1) won at home, dropping the Cougars to 3-3.
Hawaii Prep 65, St. Joseph 25: Ka Makani (4-0) won at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium as the Cardinals fell to 0-5.
