Thompson PacWest freshman of the week

This is starting to become a habit.

UH-Hilo’s Jalen Thompson was named the Pacific West Conference freshman of the week for the second consecutive awards cycle after helping the Vulcans equal their program best for road wins in an entire season since 2009 in just five days.

The 6-foot-3 guard from West Linn, Ore., scored 25 points as the Vulcans went 3-0 on a swing through Northern California. Thompson’s most productive game came Dec. 31 in a 75-54 victory at Dominican in which he finished with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

He also garnered the PacWest’s weekly freshman accolade on Dec. 20, before the NCAA’s mandated Division II break.
