Isaac Jardine scored 15 points and Tyler Fojas added 14 on Thursday night in Pahala, and Honokaa overcame a slow start to escape with a 52-49 victory against Ka’u in BIIF boys basketball.

Izaiah Pilanca-Emmsley led all scorers with 22 points for the Trojans (1-2), who jumped out to a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and led by nine at the half.

Honokaa (1-1) scored 20 points in the third quarter to tie the game entering the final eight minutes.

Andre Carvalho had 15 for Ka’u.

In JV, Honokaa beat Ka’u 42-40.

Girls

Honokaa 33, Hawaii Prep 30: The host Dragons (1-3) became just the third D-II team to get a win this season, dropping Ka Makani to 0-5.
