Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center’s next free “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series event is slated for noon-1 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney located at 655 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.

This month’s speaker is Sandi Alstrand, who will present “Bringing Ritual into Daily Life for Inner Peace and Happiness.”

“We perform rituals every day, although most of the time we don’t recognize we are doing so,” Alstrand says. “Mindfully engaging in rituals can enhance health and overall happiness.”

During this talk, learn what rituals are and how they can bring more peace and fulfillment to everyday life, plus find rituals that can be easily performed alone or with others.

Alstrand has been a social worker for more than 30 years and is currently working on her master’s degree in consciousness and transformative studies. She was the case manager at Ku‘ikahi for four and a half years and has volunteered with Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary for more than 5 years, coordinating the sanctuary’s free community spay/neuter clinics. She enjoys playing music and is a professionally trained volunteer mediator at Ku‘ikahi.

Ku‘ikahi’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”

This lunch-and-learn series is hosted on the third Thursday of each month.
