Haili Church will be hosting their 2nd annual Christmas at the Historic W.H. Shipman House event from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, on Reed’s Island. The public is invited to attend.

The cost is $15, cash only.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used to remodel and refurbish the church’s outdated kitchen.

The historic tour will include an inside tour of the decorated and festive downstairs, including the living room, parlor and formal dining area.

Jackie Puanani Johnson will be in costume and will portray Queen Lili‘uokalani as she was a frequent and happy guest of the Shipman ohana.

“This year we are having Jackie Johnson and it is so special,” said Event Coordinator Ku‘ulei Hughes-Okada.

“We are so blessed and honored to have someone who is so knowledgeable about the queen be a part of us. This is going to make it a much more culturally-rich event than it was last year. It will be more real and meaningful for us because she was a part of the history.”

The event also includes live music from various artists, including ukulele virtuoso Brittni Paiva, and light refreshments will be served on the large veranda.

Tour timeslots are limited and are on a first come-first served basis.

Please call 430-3392 to reserve a space.

At that time, individual ticketholders will be assigned the time for their tour and when to meet at the church, located at 211 Haili St., Hilo, for a free shuttle to the property, as there is no parking available on-site.
