Police are seeking the owner of a discarded gun safe, which is pictured.

On Thursday, officers responded to a report of a gun safe discovered in a dumpster on Pauoa Way off Mauna Lani Bay Drive in the Waikoloa resort area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that between Oct. 19 and Oct. 25, someone discarded a full-size Bunker Hill Security gun safe within a dumpster. The safe is missing the electronic keypad and has been cut open from the top and bottom. The safe contained several unspent rounds of ammunition but no firearms.

Extensive neighborhood checks have been conducted, but the safe’s owner has not yet been located.

Anyone with information about the owner of the gun safe is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
