A two-day workshop that begins today in Hilo will focus on water quality issues on Hawaii Island.

The event at University of Hawaii at Hilo’s UCB Room 100 is organized by Terri Napeahi of Keaukaha Action Network. Admission is free.

From 5-8 p.m. today, speakers include county Department of Environmental Management Director Bill Kucharski, professor of Marine Science Tracy Wiegner, and Maui District Health Officer Lorrin Pang.

The workshop will continue from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday with presentations from Waiwai Ola Waterkeepers, Coral Reef Alliance, Roth Ecological Design International, the Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center and more. A panel discussion will be held from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday with lunch provided by Papa Mu Native Hawaiian LLC.
