Discover how walking a path of service can have far-reaching effects and how strengthening these capacities within the community can make the world a better, more peaceful place during this month’s “Finding Solutions, Growing Peach” Brown Bag Lunch Series talk hosted by Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center.

The talk is free and open to the public and is slated for noon-1 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 18) at the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, 655 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo. These lunch-and-learn series talks are hosted the third Thursday of each month.

This month’s speaker is Chris S. Cholas, who will present “Developing Capacities for Walking a Path of Service.”

“Achieving world peace requires looking at leadership in a new way,” Cholas says. “We need to be willing to replace traditional concepts of leadership with capacities that center on service.”

Cholas earned a master’s degree in education extension from New Mexico State University. He lived with his family in Puerto Rico and Belize, working on community service projects. Since moving to Hawaii in 1997, Cholas has served as coordinator for an elderly blind program and as a disability rights advocate. He currently volunteers with local programs serving people with disabilities and supports Ruhi Institute activities in East Hawaii.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and meet others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”
