The Disaster Recovery Center in Pahoa will close on Friday (Sept. 28).

Garth MacDonald, public information officer for the U.S. Small Business Administration, said the center — which opened in June to offer volcano-affected residents financial assistance through several agencies — will close at the end of Friday, although residents will still be able to continue case work online.

Deadlines for disaster assistance grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and SBA low-interest loans closed earlier this month, although MacDonald said the SBA may be able to accept late applicants depending on extenuating circumstances.

Business owners can still apply for the SBA’s economic injury disaster loans until March of next year.

MacDonald said the SBA will likely surpass $35 million in approved loans to disaster victims by the end of next week.
