The Big Island Electric Vehicle Association is hosting two events in September to get people charged up about the advantages of electric vehicles and highlight their clean-air and cost-saving benefits.
The first is slated for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 8 at Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea, in the parking lot behind KTA near the fast-charging station. The second is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 15 at The Home Depot, 380 Makaala St. in Hilo by the garden center.
Both events will feature an electric car show with vehicles provided by owners on the island, a Q&A session with owners and island dealers, an opportunity to ride or drive select electric cars, leaders in sustainability, giveaways from national sponsors, brochures about electric car options and charging station information.
Members of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby will be available to share information about Carbon Fee and Dividend, an innovative climate solution proposal that is gaining momentum.
And solar energy experts will be available to address questions about sizing solar power systems so you can power your car with sunshine.
The events are in observance of National Drive Electric Week. The Big Island Electric Vehicle Association is organizing the events with support from sponsors Ulupono Initiative, The Home Depot, Waimea Center and KTA Superstores.
National Drive Electric Week was conceived by Plug In America, a leading independent consumer voice for accelerating the use of plug-in electric vehicles in the United States.
National Drive Electric Week is Sept. 8-16 this year and the Big Island events are among more than 280 throughout the country and around the world dedicated to increasing the adoption of sustainable transportation.
