Police arrest 15 for DUI

During the week of July 23-29, 2018, Hawaii Island police arrested 15 motorists for DUI. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and two were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna and Kona, six each; South Kohala, two; and North Kohala, one.

So far this year, there have been 654 DUI arrests compared to 669 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.2 percent.

There have been 719 major accidents so far this year compared to 781 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.9 percent.

To date, there have been 20 official traffic fatalities, compared to 21 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 4.8 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
