Do you sing, dance and act?

Do you love chocolate?

Then, boy, is there a sweet treat waiting for you in downtown Hilo.

The Hilo Community Players, in partnership with the Palace Theater, are excited to announce two audition dates for their fall musical, Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka.”

Auditions are slated for 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 28. All auditions take place at the Palace.

“Performers of all ages and experience levels are invited to audition,” said the show’s director, Rachel Klein. “Bring your head shot and performance resume if you have one. Please come prepared to sing at least 16 bars of a song of your choosing.

“A pianist will be provided; bring your own sheet music. Also come prepared for scene readings and dressed to move for a dance audition.”

Performance dates are Oct. 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21. Rehearsals will be scheduled in the weeks before opening night.

Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which features the songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”

And, yes, “Wonka Bars” will be available at the Palace box office beginning in September and during all showings in October. And, true to form, hidden inside five of those delicious chocolate bars will be a golden ticket good for two free admissions to the musical.
