The community is invited to the biggest genealogy event of 2018 in East Hawaii — Family Discovery Day!

Be inspired to discover, celebrate and cherish your ohana relationships, past, present and future, including Hawaiian cultural relevance.

The workshop is slated for 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1373 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.

Sessions offer advice on family history research for all skill levels. Topics will include genealogy of the Hawaiian language, “Mo‘olelo: Hawaiian Myths and Legends,” headstones and symbols, “From the Womb to the Tomb,” preserving documents and records, ho‘oponopono, benefits of DNA testing, “Wills, Trusts and Deeds” and how to index.

Keynote speaker Sanford Okura promises to light the fire that connects us with ohana who left binding, powerful legacies.

Pre-register on from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the Family History Center, 1372 Kilauea Ave.

A free luncheon is included for registered attendees.

Walk-in registration from 7:30-8:15 a.m. the day of the event, but not recommended.
