Bryce Furuli’s bases-loaded tripled highlighted Kamehameha’s five-run first inning, and the seven-time BIIF champion Warriors rebounded to beat Waianae 7-3 in an HHSAA Division II tournament consolation game at Hans L’Orange Park in Waipahu, Oahu.
Kamehameha (16-2) used three pitchers, Kalani Marquez, Justyce Ishii and Kyran Kai, in the five-inning game, advancing to face BIIF runner-up Konawaena in the fifth-place game at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.
The second-seeded Warriors hoped to be playing for the title, but those dreams were dashed Wednesday when Radford scored four times in the top of the seventh to win 6-4.
Kamehameha wasted little time feeling sorry for itself, drawing five walks in the top of the first against the OIA Seariders (10-5). Brycen Nakata had the only other hit of the inning, an RBI single.
Bula Ahuna hit a two-run single in the fifth after Nakata and DallasJ Duarte walked to lead off the inning.
Each team had only five hits, but the Warriors drew eight free passes.
Marquez got four outs and allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks, Ishii allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings and went 1 1/3 and walked two batters.
Zakaia Michaels took the loss against Radford, striking out seven allowing six hits, four runs (two earned) with two walks before leaving with one out on the seventh.
Konawaena 6, Molokai 1: Andrew Udac pitched a five-hitter in Waipahu, and Stevie Texeira finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Kolu Alani was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and drove in a run, and AJ Allred also had two hits, including an RBI single in the third that was followed by Texeira RBI hit. Texeira added a two-run single in the fourth as the Wildcats (10-9) scored four runs.
Udac walked three and a relied on his errorless defense.
Softball
Maryknoll ended BIIF champion Waiakea’s season with a 12-0 victory in a consolation game at McKinley High in Honolulu.
Jolene Hirata collected two of three hits for the Warriors (17-2). Kelsie Imai took the loss, though only one off the seven runs she was charged with was earned in four innings of work.
Waimea 5, Honokaa 3: Tehani Espenesa finished with two hits and struck out six in taking the loss, and the Dragons’ seasons ended with a consolation loss at McKinley.
