Basketball showcase

The 2018 Hawaii High School Basketball Showcase will be held Saturday at the Old Airport Kekuaokalani Gym.

There will be a free kid’s clinic for players ages 9-12 at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The girls game will follow at 3 p.m. The boys game will start at 5 p.m. There will be a 3-point shootout and dunk contest.

Kamehameha business race

The Kamehameha Canoe Club’s 35th annual Business canoe race is scheduled for Sunday, April 22 and will feature six-person canoe races for fun and bragging rights.

Women, men, and mixed teams will compete in business, intermediate, or open divisions. Special mixed teens and senior mixed masters divisions will also compete.

Entry deadline is April 10. Entries after April 11 will be at a higher fee.

Big Dog stipends

Applications are now available for Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph Scholarships.

This year, four $1,500 scholarships will be given to two male and two female runners.

To be eligible, students must be a graduating senior attending a two or four-year college, have a GPA of at least 2.5 and must have been a runner on the cross country or track team during their high school years. Volunteer activities and community service is also an important factor as well as financial need.

Applicants must complete an application and submit it by Saturday.
