Disc golf tourney on tap

The 15th annual Big Island Open Disc Golf Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Naniloa.

Competitors from the Big Island, Maui, Kauai and out of state will play 27 holes each day.

According to a release, recruitment is always welcome, especially in the ladies division.

Volleyball clinic Jan. 28

A Mothers Prayer will hold a volleyball clinic Jan. 28 with two sessions for ages 14-18 at Panaewa gym.

Featured will be Louis Ramirez, coach at Maryknoll and director of Asics Rainbow Volleyball Club in Oahu.

Only 20 players are allowed per session, and each one costs $50.

The first session runs 9- 11 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m., and after lunch (bring your own) the second session is noon-2 p.m. with sign-ups are 12:30 p.m.

UH-Hilo softball clinic Saturday

The University of Hawaii Hilo softball program will host a clinic from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the UH-Hilo softball field.

The clinic is available to players ages 8-18 and costs $30.

Registration is available at 11 a.m. and is limited to the first 75 participants. For preregistration, contact coach Callen Perreira at 895-0092 (or 932-7176) or at callenp@hawaii.edu.

Instruction will come from Perreira and his coaching staff, along with members of the Vulcan softball team.

Vikings golf benefit Jan. 27

The Friends of Viking Golf will hold its 33rd annual golf tournament Saturday, Jan. 27 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. The entry fee is $270 per two-man team, which covers team prizes, four mulligans, four par 3s, green fees, cart fees, lunch, and tee prizes.

Entry forms are available at Hilo Muni’s pro shop.
