The public is invited to view informational displays and “talk story” about Mauna Loa with scientists and safety officials Wednesday (Jan. 17) at the Ocean View Community Center, 92-8924 Leilani Circle in Ocean View.

Come and go at your leisure from 6-8 p.m. to learn more about Mauna Loa, Earth’s largest active volcano. Information about other Hawaiian volcanoes and how they are monitored also will be displayed. Displays will address frequently asked questions about Mauna Loa — its current status, hazards, how to prepare for a future eruption, etc. — but other questions are welcome.

Children also will be able to engage in activities and demonstrations set up just for them.

And staff from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Hawaii County Civil Defense, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the University of Hawaii Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes will be on hand to answer questions and “talk story.”

This event is free and open to the public.
