Kohala and Honokaa both fell in the first round of the HHSAA Division II state tournament on Wednesday on Oahu.

Molokai defeated the Cowgirls 23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 15-5 at Kaimuki High’s gym.

Shania Fuertes slammed nine kills, Mikayla Kekoa seven while Zaz Matsu and Cheylin Imai had six each for Kohala (13-8), the BIIF’s No. 3 team.

Anaiyah Tabiolo had 20 digs for the Cowgirls, who play the Kapaa-Hawaii Prep loser at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a consolation match.

The HPA-Kapaa match ended after the Trib’s deadline.

The Cowgirls hit just .041 and had 36 kills and 31 errors on 122 swings.

Shaelyn McCutcheon had 11 kills (.308) and Brooke Kelilihoomalu added nine kills (.353) for the Farmers (10-3), the MIL runner-up.

Molokai had a .200 hitting clip with 43 kills and 20 errors on 115 attacks.

It was a lopsided attacking mismatch between Honokaa, which hit negative .041, and Le Jardin, which hit a smoking .461.

Leilani Pupuhi and Randy Iona each had five kills for the Dragons (12-9), the BIIF’s No. 4 team. Tiera McKenzie had seven digs.

Kassidy Naone blasted 12 kills and hit .647 to lead the Bulldogs (11-3), the ILH runner-up, which fell to state champion Hawaii Baptist last year.

Honokaa will play the Damien-Roosevelt loser at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a consolation match.
