The League of Women Voters will host Puna Councilman Danny Paleka at its meeting Saturday at the Nani Mau Gardens Restaurant in Hilo.

The League of Women Voters will host Puna Councilman Danny Paleka at its meeting Saturday at the Nani Mau Gardens Restaurant in Hilo.

The general meeting begins at 10:30 a.m., with Paleka speaking at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. The buffet lunch is $20, payable by cash or check at the door.

Paleka, elected in 2014 to Puna District 5, represents Kurtistown, Mountain View, Ainaloa, Pahoa Mauka, Kalapana, Kehena and Kaimu.

His current projects include a Mass Transit Master Plan, easing connectivity issues in Upper Puna by reopening South Lauko Road and South Kopua Road, improving infrastructure in District 5, creating a merge lane from Hawaiian Acres onto Highway 11, and improvements to Herbert C. Shipman Park.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
