Just Us wins HIGA/Hilo Muni Golf tourney

Just Us, with a net of 19 under, captured first place in the Hawaii Island Golf Association/Hilo Muni Golf Club tournament at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

The winning team members were Gary Cooper, Agnes Yamauchi, Chris Paulachak, Shin Suzuki, Dalen Yamauchi and Herbert Mukai.

Tied for second place team winners were Rolling Thunder and Hawaiian Men, with a net of 13 under. The fourth-place winning team was Palaka (11 under), and Hustlers 3 took the 5th place.

Shaun Downie, with a 66 gross, took the low-gross honor.

Waiakea girls volleyball meeting on Friday

There will be a Waiakea girls volleyball meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Andrews Gym for grades 9-12 as well as incoming ninth graders about voluntary summer workouts and trying out for the team.

The meeting will include information for voluntary summer workout program. All eighth graders are welcomed to attend however, physical participation can’t start until June 15, 2015.

Arnie Asato memorial golf tourney June 6

A scholarship golf tournament in memory of Arnie Asato, the late lead starter at Hilo Municipal Golf Course, will be held Saturday, June 6 at Hilo Muni.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit Hawaii Island Junior Golf Association and University of Hawaii, Hilo, golf teams. The format is a two-player scramble.

Asato died June 6, 2014, in a fishing accident at Malama Flats, Puna. He was 57.

H had volunteered his service to the Hawaii Island Golf Association, Hawaii Island Junior Golf Association and a number of golf clubs.

A $200 team entry fee will cover the cost of golf cart, green fees and lunch. The entry deadline is Sunday, May 24. Entry forms are available at Hilo Pro Shop. Wendy Asato at (808) 640-8845 may be reached for further information.
