Police are investigating a suspected burglary and arson at a Puna restaurant early today that resulted in approximately $20,000 in property damage.

Police are investigating a suspected burglary and arson at a Puna restaurant early today that resulted in approximately $20,000 in property damage.

Officers responded to a 2:15 a.m. call reporting a structure fire at Verna’s Too Drive-In off Highway 11 in Mountain View. Arriving officers found the front door open and a small fire burning inside.

Hawaii County Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire. A fire inspector determined that the fire was suspicious in nature, and the business owners confirmed that some items were missing.

Police ask anyone with information call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
