Watson is known for her inspiring, tactile and colorful mixed media abstract paintings. Born in San Mateo, Calif., she lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life before relocating to the Big Island in 2011.
Her paintings are inspired by the cosmos, the volcanoes of Hawaii and minerals, and remind us of the mystifying relationships we share with our natural environment.
As a classically trained artist, Watson gained a strong foundation in the fundamentals of drawing and compositional skills. As her creativity evolved, she gradually moved to painting abstract art, where she discovered a sense of unlimited freedom of expression.
As she explains, “Painting abstract art gives me the freedom to throw out all the rules. Abstraction allows me to tap into my feelings, intuition and inventiveness, and work in a more spontaneous manner. I enjoy a creative process in which nothing is ‘wrong’ and the joy comes from playing with materials, colors, shapes, ideas and design.”
For over 30 years, her paintings have been exhibited in many one-person and group art exhibitions in the Bay Area. Some of these galleries include the Palo Alto Cultural Center, the Mendocino Art Center, the Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, the Overlook Gallery in Sonoma, and the Main Library in San Francisco.
