Seventy-five students from Hilo to Hawaiian Ocean View Estates competed in the recent Mountain View Gym Parks and Recreation Easter Coloring Contest sponsored by the county of Hawaii and the Queen Lili’uokalani Children’s Center.

Seventy-five students from Hilo to Hawaiian Ocean View Estates competed in the recent Mountain View Gym Parks and Recreation Easter Coloring Contest sponsored by the county of Hawaii and the Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Center.

Medals, ribbons, prizes and certificates were awarded at a pizza dinner hosted April 2 by the children’s center. More than 40 family members turned out for the fun ceremony and dinner, reported Mountain View Gym Recreation Director Merle Gornick.

The contest’s nine winners attend Naalehu Elementary School, Volcano School of Arts and Sciences Public Charter School and Waters of Life (Na Wai Ola) PCS.

The first-place division winners were (grades K-2) Dani-Lynn Makaiwi, Na Wai Ola; (grades 3-5) Jeysiah Camba-Penera, Volcano School of Arts & Sciences, and (grades 6-8) Jasmine Overby, Na Wai Ola.

Second-place finishers were (K-2) Pearl Jorlang, Naalehu Elementary; (3-5) Taylor David, Na Wai Ola, and (6-8) Tatiana Saragosa, Na Wai Ola.

Third-place finishers were (K-2) Kaleimanu Yahna, Naalehu Elementary; (3-5) Ysabel Carrero, Na Wai Ola, and (6-8) Celia Costa, Na Wai Ola.
