More parking planned at bus terminal

Work begins Monday to add 17 additional parking stalls in the Mooheau Bus Terminal parking lot in downtown Hilo, according to a written statement from the county.

The mauka lane, between Mamo and Haili streets, fronting Kamehameha Avenue, will be widened by seven feet. Six trees along Kamehameha Avenue will be relocated to the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens. Construction will be weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Completion is scheduled for mid-March, weather permitting. The county will resurface and re-stripe the parking lot later.

No parking will be allowed in the mauka parking lane between Mamo and Haili streets, fronting Kamehameha Avenue starting from 6 a.m. Monday. A no parking sign will be posted this weekend. The county will have illegally parked vehicles towed starting Monday.
