Horsey fun day for all ages Oct. 13 at Panaewa

Lots of horsing-around fun is on the agenda Oct. 13 at the Panaewa Equestrian Center arena outside Hilo.

With focus on keiki activities, but with adult events as well, the Gymkana Funday contests start at 8:30 a.m. Signups need to be done in advance, and check-in time for contestants starts at 7 a.m. that day. For specifics, please call Jacquelyn Olivera of the sponsoring DA Hui Ohana at 987-6001.

Events will include dummy roping and goat undecorating for for ages 5-under and 6-8; apple dunking for ages 5-under and 6-12, 13-17 and adults; goat tying in various categories; barrel racing and pole bending in several age brackets, including adults.

There will be the precious event known as keyhole, two-person rescue race, two-person flag race and break-away roping to end the day.

Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to winners. Entry fees are pretty much $5 per keiki event and $10 or $15 for adults, plus a $5 stock fee for use of the livestock. The entry deadline is Monday, Oct. 9.
